Ionic media have made great scientific progress in the last years. Both fields, molten salts and ionic liquids, have contributed to new fundamental insight and advanced which have allowed to explore new research areas and to realize new technical applications.

The EUCHEM 2008 Conference on Molten Salts and Ionic Liquids aims to provide a forum to discuss the state-of-the-art in molten salt and ionic liquid research and to develop future perspectives of ionic media used for academic and industrial purposes.

In further developing the scientific concept of the last EUCHEM 2006 conference in Hammamet, Tunisia applied research will gain more room in the conference. However, as all reasonable applied approaches need to be based on an in-depth understanding of the physicochemical properties all important advances in the fundamental understanding will remain a very important part of the scientific programme.

We would like to invite all scientists interested in understanding and exploring ionic media for an exciting, 5-day, scientific summer event to Copenhagen!

Regardless of their specific melting point range, the best is still to come in molten salt and ionic liquid chemistry
